Home Security Tips Shared By A Professional Locksmith In Scottsdale AZ

Being a professional locksmith in Scottsdale AZ, I often get asked by customers regarding how to make their home a safer place. Listed below are some tips that I often suggest to my customers.

Windows:

Since windows are often the primary target for burglars to glance into your home, they should be offered with proper security:

·         Close blinds and curtains to prevent surveillance into your house

·         Lock windows while leaving home for even a short period of time

·         Buy dowels for windows to back up poor quality factory window locks.

·         Think about employing a window film that makes the glass more difficult to break.

·         Restrict access to windows by locking up maintenance chairs, tools and ladders

·         Replace screens whey they become damaged or are falling out of the window frame.

Doors:

Just like windows, the doors in your home are also vulnerable to a break-in by burglars. To prevent unwanted access through your doors

·         Ensure each exterior door has a deadbolt installed properly

·         Ensure the door jamb is fortified with a security strike  & long screws. This is generally the weakest point when a door is kicked in,

·         Glass sliding doors must have a dowel placed in the frame or a secondary lock of some kind to prevent opening.

·         Think about replacing screen doors with security doors made from iron or steel.

·         Replace screens on all screen doors, and make sure locks are functional.

·         All doors must have a peep-hole viewer to recognize visitors before opening the door.

Keys & Key Control:

·         Never give a spare key to a neighbor. You can put spare keys in locking boxes installed to a door or garage. These are known as “Realtor Boxes” and they lock the key in an armed box only opened with a numerical code.

·         Don’t leave the keys of your house unattended or on the key chain when you’ve work done on your vehicle.

·         Don’t leave keys in the open, while socializing, shopping, or visiting co-workers or friends.

·         Always carry a spare key in your pocket

·         Consider keying your doors the same apart from one door employed by the cleaning personnel, delivery workers, or the babysitter. For any lock and keys related help, you can always call Cave Creek Lock and get immediate assistance!
